After being in our new home for a few months, I finally took the time to look around in every room of the house to get a feel for the décor I have, and what I need. Following a thorough check, I realized that I had moved into a much bigger home with not as much stuff as in our previous one. You see, while packing for the move, I got rid of collectibles and junk that we had accumulated throughout the years. I decided that I didn’t need a bunch of stuff to clutter my new home and my life… I needed a new start. No more worrying about spending my Saturdays rubbing of dust of stuff that just sits there. No more.
But taking this a little deeper… I’ve been asking myself lately “how many collectibles am I still holding on in my heart?” What memory or incident have I allowed to settle in the dust of bitterness? Have I dusted it off? Maybe. Maybe not. But, what if I haven’t really? Right now my life is so much simpler without the extra work of having one more thing to do – one more thing to dust or care for. What about my spiritual life? What about the condition of my heart? Could I experience the same simplicity in my inner spirit? Absolutely yes!
So many times we go through life carrying stuff that we have no use for. This “stuff” hinders us from living life to its fullest. It hinders us from experiencing every day joy. Decide today to get rid of it. No more dusting. Don’t hold on anymore to meaningless stuff. The Bible says “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14 NKJV
Let us live a clutter free life – a life full of God’s bountiful love.
On a side note – I have nothing against figurines and things that people give me. And no, if you love collectibles, please keep them. I’m not suggesting you get rid of them. This is just an analogy! But if you do want to get me something for my birthday, a gift card may do. Thanks for reading.
