I started this blog about two months ago but yet I haven’t written a lot. Life is busy. A beautiful family, a job that keeps me running and building a new house are reasons enough for not blogging. However, I am not a quitter. Today though, I have a little something to share. Let me warn you, I am not a natural writer but I will share my thoughts anyway.
I just finished reading The Noticer by Andy Andrews. As I sit in this flight returning home from D.C., I am experiencing a few emotions. The last two books that stirred me like this were El alquimista (The Alchemist) by Paulo Coelho and Purpose Driven Life by Pastor Rick Warren. It’s almost like there are books designed to meet you at different stages of your life. I like to read but with such a busy schedule it’s almost a treat when I can actually do it.
The Noticer is the story about an old man named Jones and his encounters with the residents of Orange Beach, Alabama. These encounters are what I would call divine appointments. Jones meets people who are at the lowest points in their lives. From hopelessness, to failing marriages and lost dreams, the old man takes these opportunities to impart a little bit of perspective in each life encountered. People are never the same. After visiting with Jones, they gain new perspective and move on to living meaningful lives.
The different stories in the book make me think of my own life and what I am called to do. You see, God has gifted us to serve in different areas. Are you currently serving where you are supposed to? Are you called to be a noticer?
Do you care for people? Do you often feel led to share some wisdom with others? How about that person that you constantly pray for? Or the neighbor that you call to make sure he/she is OK? Even more, how about the colleague at work that you find yourself constantly encouraging? If you answered yes to any of these, then you are a noticer. You notice and find things in peoples’ lives that they can’t notice themselves. You help them see above what meets the eye to give birth to a new beginning.
Today take a moment to pay attention to the people around you. Look at their lives and see where you can impart a little bit of perspective. You will be amazed at the results.
By the way, Grupo Nelson will be releasing this title in Spanish this Fall – La maleta. Stay tunned.
